Currently a Research Assistant Professor at USTC, China

Welcome! I’m Dr. Amritpal Singh Chaddha, a researcher working at the interface of geochemistry, astrobiology, and planetary science. Currently affiliated with the School of Earth and Space Sciences at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, China. My interest lies in understanding the Origin of Life Chemistry. Photogeochemistry and Early Life Experimental Simulations.

With a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Lucknow and a rich academic background, including a Gold Medal in M.Sc. Having studied chemistry at NIT Jalandhar, I have developed a deep interest in the biogeochemical signatures of life and prebiotic chemistry. My research focuses on understanding the formation and function of natural coatings, such as rock varnish, and mineral-organic interactions, as well as biosignatures in extreme environments like hot springs and deserts, which are crucial to unraveling the origin of life.

Over the past decade, I’ve contributed to various National institutions, including IGCAR (DAE), CSIR-NPL, and BSIP (DST), and authored multiple high-impact publications in journals such as Chemical Geology, Planetary and Space Science, ACS Earth and Space Chemistry, and Sustainable Energy Fuels. I’ve also presented my work at renowned international conferences, including AGU, Goldschmidt, ACS, and OoLEN.

I am a member of several professional societies, including the Royal Society of Chemistry, the European Association of Geochemistry, and the Origin of Life Early Career Network (OoLEN).

Beyond the lab, I enjoy engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations that explore the possibilities of life beyond Earth and share science with curious minds worldwide.

Let’s explore how life leaves traces—in rocks, in chemistry, and in space.
